A Birthday Blog
Posted by Aaron - 24/12/09 at 11:12:16 pmI know, I know. It’s my birthday AND Christmas Eve. Why can’t I get out from my computer and stop blogging and twitterin’ and social mediaizing? Well, it’s because it’s my birthday and I can do what I want. And I love making pictures and wanted to share some portraits and all-around fun I had with my wife Kristen today.
This was shot in the dense fog at an old closed mill near my parents house in Roseburg, Oregon. I could have spent an entire day there, even in the pigeon poop.

Caryn & Jeff, San Francisco Wedding
Posted by Aaron - 23/12/09 at 07:12:36 pmI love when different things come together to make something awesome. Like Christmas and birthdays. Peanut butter & chocolate. Milk & ice cream. Football & beer. Or, in this case, an Italian American family and a Vietnamese family, joining to celebrate Caryn & Jeff’s wedding. And celebrate they did. Oh, and shooting with Ashley Forrette is another one of those things I like. Here are just a few of the images I grabbed.

Merry Christmas, One and All, Hooray!
Posted by Aaron - 18/12/09 at 11:12:54 pmThe year of the Ox, 2009, was a pretty crazy year for Aaron Courter Photography. I worked hard, did more weddings and portraits, and took more pictures than I ever have. I invested in awesome equipment and took the risk of leaving the consistency of a regular day job to go full-time into my photographic work.
I also recognize that I couldn’t have done it without my family and friends continuous support and encouragement or the sea of other photographers’ knowledge and experience. One photographer I have had the privilege of working with this year is Ashley Forrette. You’ve seen her work. You know her from such theater performances as “The WeddingChannel.com Wants to Be Her” and the upcoming Art Docu-Drama, “Sea Legs.” She’s awesomely talented. And we pretty much kick ox as a team too. In 2010, you’ll see a LOT more work from us on upcoming projects as well as the weddings and portraits we do.
So Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, (and Happy Merlinpeen to all you Verdukians), from your local Portland Photographers,
Aaron Courter & Ashley Forrette.

Victoria & Her Puppies
Posted by Aaron - 15/12/09 at 11:12:52 pmI’ve known Victoria for a number of years now as a colleague and friend. She had been wanting a portrait session for awhile and with her new Yorkie pups, it gave her the perfect reason.
Victoria of course is beautiful, fun, and pretty easy to photograph (according to me, not Victoria) but those little doggies move SO FAST! And their cuteness level even intimidates my massive Nikon D700 camera. I think it peed a little in my hands…

Ice Picks
Posted by Aaron - 13/12/09 at 01:12:40 pmWhen the cold comes, a quick getaway up the Gorge is essential. Stunning shards of ice run their fingers down the cliffs. Ashley was kind enough to ignore her jetlag and tag along and probably take better pictures than me. But camera or not, it’s nice to be out in the cold beautiful landscapes.

Peterson Family Portraits
Posted by Aaron - 11/12/09 at 12:12:23 amAnother cold morning in Portland and another brave awesome family! They are moving out of the Mississippi neighborhood into University Park but they wanted to capture some of their old stompin grounds for this shoot. Aren’t their kids ridiculously adorable? Their oldest, Paige, was a little ham*ster.
Thanks Peterson Family for being all snuggly and fun! I hope we can do it again!

Rebanal Family Portraits
Posted by Aaron - 09/12/09 at 05:12:59 pmI love this family for a number of reasons. I was contacted by David since he was the recipient of my donated portrait package to the Emerson School and wanted some “very Portland” family photos. So I suggested one of my favorite unknown places, Willamette Cove, which is in walking distance from my house (yeah, I’m lazy) and they were totally up for it. Willamette Cove is undeveloped but beautiful land next to the river in between U of P and St Johns.
It was freezing cold, sunny and the light was brilliant. The girls were brave and adorable and their three month old son was so observant and calm (as much as three month olds can be!). Anyways, we walked all the way to the train bridge and a train thundered by. What more could you ask for, you know, aside from a little more warmth?
Thanks Rebanal family, you were so great to spend time with!

Our Family Portrait
Posted by Aaron - 09/12/09 at 12:12:30 amSo this year, I tried a couple different things for our christmas family portrait. I liked some more sunflare/outdoor shots but I wanted to try something close-up and warm. For those of you wondering how I did it, I lit up my family with a flash through an umbrella to their right on low power and then a backlight under the Christmas tree. And then the kids went back to playin’….
Here it is, hope you enjoy.

A Slight Facelift
Posted by Aaron - 06/12/09 at 10:12:45 pmOh, you know… nothing big. A little snip here, a tuck there. I just combined my blog with my website so I don’t send important people like you in two different directions. And plus, I’ll be able to do a lot cool things. And I’ll look better, which is very important to me. As you can see.
So come to my website. Visit often. Admire my new skin.

Friends Are Good, Especially This One
Posted by Aaron - 06/12/09 at 12:12:00 amMy friend Libby Unwin is in town from Colorado so we decided to just do some fun shooting. Since she isn’t a photographer, I was the one taking pictures. She let me do some light tests and then we ventured down to the river for some exploring. I also have to say, she knows that I post and blog a lot of photos and was self-confident enough to wear a puffy warm jacket. I think she looks great.
Thanks Libby, it was a lot of fun! And everyone, please check out her website. She runs a graphic design business that you need to check out. Extremely talented.
